SANTIAGO - The most African of all the Islands

Santiago is the largest island and has a rich and interesting history. From here slave ships from the West African coast would stop before continuing their journey to the Americas. This is predominately a green and mountainous island. At the centre there are two mountain ranges in between which there are lush valleys supporting a variety of agriculture. Praia, the capital of Cape Verde is great for music and has a colourful, bustling African market. No visit to Santiago would be complete without a trip to the old capital of Cidade Velha.

SÃO VICENTE - Music, art and culture

São Vicente is generally considered to be the cultural centre of the Islands and Mindelo, the capital, is proud of its rich tradition of music and art. The cobbled streets and 19th century architecture of Mindelo is reminiscent of colonial times past. There are lovely sandy beaches and the island is reputed to be one of the world's best windsurfing and body-boarding destinations.
