Cape Verde Islands - Which Island to Choose?

One of the stunning white sand beaches on Cape Verde

Located in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of Africa with Senegal and Mauritania their nearest African neighbours, this archipelago of tropical islands stretches between latitudes 14° and 20° N placing them on the same latitude as Jamaica and The Dominican Republic in the Caribbean, whilst the Canary Islands lay 1000km to the north.

SAL - White sand beaches and turquoise sea

Sal has the widest choice of hotels, and is the most convenient island to visit, as all international flights currently land here. The journey to Santa Maria, where the hotels are, takes just 20 minutes and on the way you will get an indication of the arid and bare landscape that makes up the majority of the island. The capital Espargos and the fishing port of Palmeira are well worth a visit during your stay. It is the white sand beaches and water sports that people come to Sal for, plus the low key, but quite lively nightlife of Santa Maria.
